Dragofer returns with more maritime sneaking in Perilous Refuge, which follows the exploits of a downtrodden thief in a dinky port town. One night an unusually wealthy looking ship moors on the docks, and the temptation to board and rob them blind is too much.
The player would be remiss to not explore the buildings lining the docks as well, as this is where the mission shines the brightest in my opinion. There is plenty of intrigue, foul play and of course loot to uncover in town. Staying undetected can be quite the challenge, so be prepared for a mission of far above average difficulty. I tend to give myself the extra challenge of not using any water arrows while playing, and this mission had me close to breaking them out several times.
On that topic, lighting and architecture are both great throughout the mission, and combined with the world-building readables and visual elements the location of Wrecker's Reach positively oozes an atmosphere of sadness, squalor and alcoholism, and I reveled in it! Missions that embrace this dystopian outlook really are on a different level in my opinion.
There are few gripes to be had with this mission, aside from the aforementioned difficulty, and occasional performance drops. The main story does serve its purpose, and the discoverable side stories really fleshes out the world. This is a highly recommended mission!
