So... those of you following me through these FMs will have seen me pause, for a significant length of time, before posting a set of reviews in order. The truth is, I was wanting to do a small batch of small sized FMs, and then I reached this one.
This FM broke me.
This mission is a sequel to garretts revenge. I rated that mission low, but it had redeeming factors. Truthly I wondered if my issues with it were just based on taste. Maybe it wasn't actually bad.
I give no such kind words to Dock Land.
This mission, for the most part, looks OK. The docks are honestly pretty cool, and while the design is not particularly logical, it's far from a disaster. The issue comes in it's gameplay. To complete the mission, you need to pass between several warehouses, however to get into the warehouses I need to pull a lever somewhere unrelated, but to do that I need rope arrows.
I searched the entire map, there were no rope arrows...
So, to save you multiple hours of searching: If you don't buy the rope arrows in the store, you are softlocked. You are told this in the Readme, but... why? If it's vital, why not just give it to me, or even better, why not put some rope arrows in the mission itself?
However, the pain does not end here. Even after making it to the lever, and entering the warehouse, you then have the task of exploring it, pulling another lever, and working out what that lever just opened. Except, either I couldn't find that lever, or it was the one I did find, that I then couldn't identify what it did. I was leverhunting in a warehouse for a key that might or might not exist, in a mission who's layout makes no sense.
Maybe I am the stupid one here, maybe I misunderstood the objectives, maybe I could have found a readable that explains exactly what to do, and isn't about a man trying to marry a burrick that lives in his toilet. I don't know, and honestly, after multiple hours of searching, being softlocked because I didn't buy the ropearrows, being generally messed around with over multiple days, I threw in the towel. Maybe this mission suddenly explodes into a huge twist in the last 10 minutes, but I doubt it.
I want to be clear: this mission is not inherently ugly or awful in quite the same way my other 1/10s are, but it is one which I genuinely wish I hadn't played, and feel has almost no value. I cannot recommend this mission to anyone.
