At least, I got an impression the movie was a heavy inspiration with it's imagery and atmosphere. And also the fact that it was done in pre-NewDark age is mind-blowing and inspiring. I bet it made an impact on everyone in 2000.

Atmosphere. Is. Amazing. Animated intro and outro boost the presentation. Careful use of color and light. Great custom assets that "decorate" innards of the factory and pagan pits. That being said, I'm not crazy about the design of the haunts. They look too fancy for pagans and not "Hammerite" enough. But it's a minor thing. Some other custom monsters looks amazing, though. I didn't visit the vault yet, but it feels more like some meme or something. Spoils the immersion a little.

Gameplay. Sneaking and backstabbing. Backstabbing and sneaking. I played Warrior (didn't try other modes yet) and this is what it was about for the most part. There were also a few custom weapons, that were useful in dealing with abominations in creative ways. The holy gauntlet is very cool: slapping zombies is a lot of fun. Acid bombs, mines helped a lot. And perhaps the most amazing use of the fire arrow. Cinematic af. Exploration isn't very interesting. It's either long corridors or large rooms, which are sometimes just empty. At the same time, enemies are fast and deadly. It's a challenging mission. At least Warrior. Thankfully, loot goal is fairly relaxed. When that ghost mentioned to collect stones, I groaned, but they were fairly close together, so it wasn't bad.

The story. Texts work extremely well in the factory, because you haven't been "down there" yet and they build a lot of suspense and terror (along with the look of the factory itself). But then they become rather redundant and, dare I say, plain once you begin to find notes from the companies.

It's perhaps not my final opinion, because I will return to the mission to play as a thief and as a rogue. But so far it aged extremely well and worth playing today. An achievement.
