The sequel to the well recieved first mission; Volta and the Stone, Cauldron of the Gods does not disappoint. This mission takes heavy inspiration from the later parts of Thief: The Dark Project in its setting and style, and serves as a powerful homage to those missions.
The player gets to first explore a visually stunning, hand crafted city district which has an interesting feel to it with the open air masquerade that is going on. Later on in the mission, as the player ventures underground the visuals are on the simpler side, but we are instead treated by epic views of chasms and ancient "lost city" type architecture. The recreation of rat men as "monkey men" gives the mission that occult TDP feeling, and keeps the player interested in the story and gameplay. The gameplay is similarly reminiscent of the sprawling underground missions in the aforementioned game, and while it can get tedious to walk for long stretches between places of interest I still feel that the mission was pulled off quite well. If nothing else it is certainly a very impressive mission, that feels very polished, but will most likely appeal more to those who have fond memories of the later parts of the Dark Project.
