A Dire Venture is the second part in the Darkness Falls series, which sadly never saw a conclusion. After having stolen the cursed Royal Garmyth in the previous mission, Garrett is in search of answers and raids another warehouse complex to find them. If you like Shipping & Receiving then you'll feel right at home here. Hidden in the Shadows already had a good grasp of architecture and style with their previous effort, but they refined it quite a lot for this one. The night is dark and cloudy and the surroundings are approriately gloomy, with a really nice and ominous ambient track that plays in most of the outside areas. The warehouses are blocky and large, but it never feels boring nor repetitive, especially since most of the lighting comes from spotlights that give a very sinister look to it.
The mission is quite short, is very simple overall and you can also head straight to the main objective's location right off the bat, which is quite odd. It's not even that hidden. While the presentation is pretty much top-notch, the mission could really have benefitted from another floor in the warehouses, as you never get the opportunity to move around catwalks up high nor hop from rooftop to rooftop, which Shipping and Receiving did quite well. It's a missed opportunity, but even without it A Dire Venture is a very nice mission if you want a short-ish warehouse experience.
