Another addition to the "Thieves Highway" genre, probably my favorite type of FM, and this one quickly shot to the top of my list of favorites. The sense of vertigo is really tremendous, with the buildings often jammed close together over a long drop, and in fact aside from an optional trip into a graveyard you don't even touch the ground on this mission. The city is vibrant with life and detail: the exteriors will have you searching for ways to progress, and the interiors are sometimes quite imaginative. The map is quite detailed but the routes are a bit labyrinthine, so this mission will challenge your observation skills without leaving you lost. In terms of atmosphere, the sound placement is a definite highlight of this mission, not only creating the illusion of a densely populated city but also telling a somewhat creepy story in its own right (who is that that you hear trying to break into house after house just beyond a blocked door, always managing to escape the guards?) After having played quite a few Thief FMs I have started to feel jaded, and the illusion of verisimilitude and "things not seen" has already broken down for many missions, but in this one it was completely unbroken.
The mission goal itself is not disappointing, taking you to a Hammerite cathedral that I found to be quite challenging to sneak around, with lots of marble flooring and plenty of guards (at least on Hard difficulty--not sure what the other reviewer is talking about calling it empty!). There are also several optional objectives that encourage you to explore the city. The most complex one is a bit of a fetch quest that you will have to puzzle out several clues to complete, including one crucial clue on which your reward depends.
Nothing is perfect but I enjoyed this FM from start to finish. Probably my favorite standalone FM since Endless Rain. Definitely recommended unless you're not a fan of Thieves Highway missions.
