When the poor people and beggars began to disappear, City Watch captain (unable to conduct proper investigation because of pressure from city's finest) decided to hire Jacobs, the thief, to find out what's going on. The traces led to small local inn "The Hare in the Snare", but then Jacobs also disappeared. It's now turn of our hero, Jacobs' acquaintant, - to find out who (and why) is behind those abductions and to clarify Jacobs' fate.
The mission is quite small in scope (several houses, and one street), but nicely uses limited space (it reminded me Chronicles of Skulduggery and Now and Then in this regard): discovering secrets, frobbable windows, and compartments will keep you busy for some time - especially if you are playing on expert and try to satisfy very steep (although optional) loot requirement. My inner reader was pleased a lot: there are not only (too) many texts (and two videos) but they show that each person involved into secret criminal activity has his/her own obvious or hidden motive (even if it was a bit repetitive and felt like self-justification trope). I really interested to see (and play) the continuation.
Aside from loot objective - which was optional, - I had some troubles with tricky-to-climb down ladders into certain underground (and one above ground) areas, and also one optional objective (dealing with two bandits) was a bit tricky to figure out its logic. Also it was a bit strange that some inn guards are indifferent to you (in big hall) and others aren't. But otherwise, it's fairly competent debut and very immersive and captivating mission.
