A tremendously weird and challenging mission that almost feels like a fever dream inside the Thief universe, with its own ornate writing style and hallucinogenic geometry. It reminded me of Jedi Knight and other 90's FPS trailblazers, with those massive industrial landscapes full of inexplicable balconies surrounded by bottomless pits. Striking use of light and shadow, with a full sun shining aboveground and warrens of absolute impenetrable darkness below; navigating between the surface and the depths is a true thrill. Play it immediately, please.
Best Bit: The overall atmosphere. Truly unlike any other FM out there – halfway between a dream and a nightmare.
Worst bit: The story itself doesn’t really cohere – the mission objectives feel superfluous compared to the exploration itself. But that seems intentional, and isn’t an objectively “bad” choice.
Biggest surprise: So many great touches I don’t want to spoil. I would say that a certain underground lair is saturated with more surprises than most other missions altogether.
