This should be a FM that I really like. Take the art design for instance: you set out on a crisp Halloween evening, navigating cramped city roads, quiet buildings, creepy sewers, ominous tombs, and the cozy Inn and cottage that serve as respites from it all. Each area has a unique look yet still adheres to a central art style. I love the story setup too: a retired Garret going on one more looting spree just because he's curious about his cottage and wants to start blade collection. Running around his cottage is fun and sneaking through town is cool. It really feels like an awesome map. Yet for some reason, I couldn't really get into it.
While I can't fully describe why, I have a couple examples of annoying things I can share. First off, the only way to get into the Hammer church is to extinguish all of the torches in the room and knockout all of the Hammers (one requiring a gas arrow), which feels really "gamey" and like I'm doing it wrong. Second, the switch hunt to find secret entrances can range from easy/intuitive to "WTF I swear I've searched this place up and down where the HELL is it?!" While, in the end, I was able to get most of the switches, even the trickier ones, I know there is a secret path there above Deddoc Thool's tomb and yet I have no clue where that godforsaken button/switch/pressure plate is that's required to open it! It's not like its necessary, as you can still get all the objectives on expert without opening it, but nonetheless it still bugs me. I've watched a couple walkthroughs and they can't seem find it either.
While the gameplay of this level was generally fine, even good in some places, there were enough parts that made me feel confused or stupid to sour my taste of it. Make no mistake though, this is a good map with a strong aesthetic. It's well worth your time if you want to try it, just keep in mind what I said while playing it and don't be too afraid to check a walkthrough.
