Unforgiven: Mission One, is about stealing from a nobleman. It's about stealing some bones, and a sword.
That isn't what makes this mission... this mission.
Unforgiven, is a mission with fully voice acted conversations, that were voiced for it specially. It has custom music, a cutscene at the start, yet all the streets and rooms are done with a single large brush, with stretched textures, and it's just...
OK so when I launched this, my first thought, looking at the high, featureless, walls, and the oversized textures was: "oh no They made a sequel to Koobze". However, as I moved through the streets, and weird music played, I realized... no, this is... It's...
Agh, I don't know what to say. This mission makes me speechless. It's huge boxy enviroments are objectively bad. It's streets are awful, and all too similar to eachother... and yet... I LIKE it here. It feels like someone put a ton of effort into an objectively bad mission. The music, and the enviroments both blend to create something... something that I have trouble analysing. What I would say is if anyone wants to make an unfiction project set around Thief, THIS FM is where you should start looking for inspiration. Old, bizzare, slightly creepy, but strangely high effort in the weirdest places. Such as having voice acting.
Gameplay wise it's standard fare. Find a way in, steal everything... There is a certain element of keyhunting to this mission: Just check on top of every table carefully and you will be fine. Also you will need all the loot on the mission to complete it (Which might trip you up as one single piece of loot is hidden outside the manor).
Do I recommend playing it in the first place though? I don't know. I don't know if my strange enjoyment of the mission is because I am strange, or if there is genuinely something strange happening here. What I do know, is that Unforgiven is a strange, slightly creepy, bizzare experience. It's deserving of it's low rating, don't get me wrong... but it's also perhaps worth taking a look anyway?

You put into words what I felt when I played this mission almost 20 years ago. So strange I still remember it and almost want to play it again.
