I have two points of major contreversy against me in the thief community. The first was building a big black pit and filling it full of spiders. The second is my insistance that T2 is a better game to design missions for, and that those who say otherwise are blinded by nostalgia.
However that second point comes from two assumptions: everything in T1 can be ported to T2, and that the author is willing to do that.
There are many parts of this remake that are good. Indeed, I will go as far as saying: all the "active" changes are good. Freeing the burricks is a particularly popular change with me. However the author, much like in the orginal, uses stock assets only, with only the burricks ported. As a result, the atmosphere is a mess. The gameplay does not suffer, but so many little details are missing or "wrong". The ambient light is also increased considerably.
Otherwise, most of my points from the original still stand, I would rate this 5/10 most of the time, but with the context that the original is still around, I can't see any good reason to play this version instead, hence the lower score.
