Well, to be honest, I never really liked that level. Yes, there are some qualities. The Keeper grotto OST is nice. And the idea in general seems ok. I also enjoy sidequest of the hunt for the Serpentyle Torc. The Watchmans Grave thing, well, it´s not that hard but also a bit silly that Garrett seems to be superstitious.
However, the whole level has two severe downsides.
The first one is the annoying placement of loot. And the loot goal is pretty high.
They placed some random gold pots, gems and other stuff in dark corners or in window sills. Really, what sense does that make?
Does it never rain in the Thief universe? Usually this gold stuff should have been rusted away after the 50 years, and obviously no other thief ever entered the area.
So, there might be a lot of backtracking.
The other annoying thing is the "sawing" OST, which plays in the area after the beginning.
While I usually like the Thief OSTs, I absolutely detest this piece of sound!
I can understand that they had in mind to make the whole place spooky and desolate, but this is just torture for the ears.
It doesn´t play in the other areas. So why that? Often when replaying the level I just mute the sound after having cleared the area of enemies.
Level-design is honestly also not that great. I mean, the main challenge is usually to get around the rubble, and avoid or deal with the variety of enemies here.
And in the end, it´s just an interlude for the rest of the game. Because for whatever reasons, Garrett can´t handle a lasso, so the Eye in plain sight floats there and he has to acquire all the talismans. Hm well.
The added fireshadow is also unnecessary as usual. Never have soft-locked myself here. At least it´s now in a place where it can´t follow the player like in Bonehoard.
