Mine Saga, by the author's own admission, is a compilation of their previously released missions in one convenient download, but the title suggests it's going to form a cohesive whole. Spoilers - it doesn't. The first mission, Darkstone Mine, is a small, experimental map that makes heavy use of Thief 2's most under-utilised inventory item, flares, to guide your way through and light torches. Its small size helps prevent the gimmick from wearing thin, as is the acquisition of a lantern later on in the level.
You're there to cause trouble, and the events of that mission lead directly into the second, which involves some particularly unscrupulous work, even for Garrett's standards. I was quietly intrigued by this and was excited to see where the third mission took things, but it instead jackknifes into a completely different tangent involving Hammerites, mages, ancient relics blah blah blah. It's also the longest mission by quite a margin, so you'd better hope you like the themes involved with it. The fourth mission is bite-sized, like the first two, a tiny city level that turns into a bit of a scavenger hunt on Expert with a stiff loot requirement that'll see you dredging sewer canals to meet it.
The biggest strength of this mission pack is its presentation, which sees good brushwork and use of lighting to create places that feel grounded and lived in, even cosy at times (not including the spider-infested mine!). The story, well... it's two stories, and only one of them has something approaching a conclusion, and it's the least interesting of the two. It is jarring how things suddenly split off midway through, so temper your expectations appropriately.
