The only redeeming quality of this mission is that it was at times a nice visual departure from the usual Victorian-esque Thief 2 missions which I like to play.
This mission is vast, quite on the larger side of Thief missions. You have free reign over several city blocks, a large sewer section, and several enterable buildings, all this in addition to the main course, Lord Robert's castle. But it's really quite empty, given how big it is. Buildings are hardly ornamented, and there was a similar dearth of furniture and decor.
This physical emptiness is a great metaphor for the gameplay as well. The map is huge, but there really isn't much to do. The mission's maker clearly had great ambitions, but fell well short of them in all measures.
What is most annoying is that playing on expert difficulty I had a loot goal of 2,000, but could not find nearly enough loot to satisfy the goal. Even after exploring what felt like the whole map, I came up several hundred points short. This is in large part due to the aforementioned emptiness penetrating all aspects of the mission. Each area has barely any loot in it, and each bit of it is almost worthless. Even the whole of Lord Robert's castle barely had any furniture, decor, or loot to take. This guy is supposed to be rich? Clearly I was meant to find more hidden spots full of loot, but with every building lacking ornamentation and being nondescript, how was I to tell where to go? There was hardly any visual indication that Building A was enterable as opposed to Building B.
I gave up after satisfying every objective except for the loot goal.
This mission really should have been condensed to Lord Robert's castle, and more attention should have been given to curing this mission of its lackluster decoration and dearth of loot.
(One or more of the paintings I found both offensive and immersion-breaking--that of the bikini-clad "warrior lady".)
EDIT: After a frustrating revisit to the sewers, where I was anxious to find a hinted-at purse, I managed to meet the loot goal after finding a well-hidden recess. However, most of what I wrote about the mission still stands. This is a very unpraiseworthy mission which I shall not play again.
