If you've played the first part, DP2 is like a fully-fledged version to what's been teased in DP1.
It's built around scripted events and plays like a movie, and to be fair it does good job with that.
Today the effects may not be as impressive, but back in the day they felt really awesome. If you already played Thief FMs 15 years ago, you'll notice the aesthetics scream late 00s. Some devices are totally predictable, as you have the horror convention in mind all the time, but there are also many surprises in store.
This kind of scenario will obviously work best if you don't find yourself stuck too often, as it diverts attention from the atmosphere and breaks immersion. DP2 doesn't have you stop many times, however it requires finding several small items, while obviously being quite dark. This means you have to choose between halting your progress and detaching from the story to hunt some keys in the dark, or increase gamma and easily see everything at the cost of bringing down the atmosphere.
The story feels quite right when you're going through it. It hooks you in, keeps you in suspense, and you don't ask questions because you don't know the ending yet. Only when you finish the mission and start thinking about it, you notice so many things that made zero sense, and, as one Thi4f review perfectly put it, that the whole storyline is based on "and thens" rather than "beacauses." It doesn't add up in retrospect, but does its job to make your run better, so it isn't too bad either.
An obvious recommendation for any horror fan, but it should appeal to most taffers.
