I didn't really like this mission.
I think the idea is cool, having AI fight each other, hunting for gear, having some sort of high-tension escape. The problem lies in the lack of polish and overall general feeling of someone who knows what they WANT to do, but not being 100% sure how to achieve it.
Your main objective is to find a sword, but you won't find it until late in the level, AFTER you would've already killed your other main objective (he only has 1HP so a blackjack hit works). You also have to find some rosary beads from the briefing, but those are behind what I don't really want to call a keyhunt, but more of a "keyguess," since you'll have to find your picks somewhere in the level first.
Wrichards says themselves (in the readme) that this was their first real dive into Dromed, but unfortunately that's pretty apparent. Carpets hover a couple inches above the floor, causing you to clip through them and unable to jump, while still making tile sounds. Voice lines will repeat if you walk past their triggers more than once. Loot is sometimes placed inside itself.
The layout is pretty nonsensical, especially in seeing multiple gates to the outside street level on every floor of the complex, even though the actual escape route is at the bottom floor. Those glimpses of the outside are decent too, with some environmental stuff and guards milling about, but the escape route itself is just a tower in a black void with floating sconces.
However, some aspects of the missions are cute. There's a readable next to the sword which is Wrichards speaking directly to the player: "Are you ready for Mission 2: The Tower of Illusion? soon to be released. How did you like this one, let me know." It's fun to see stuff like that. FMs still have to be taken with a grain of salt to some extent.
I don't really like being harsh about fan content, since its mostly just people who really like [THING] a lot trying to make more of [THING] to go around, but Escape: The Bear Pits is one of the first early FMs that I'd say aged poorly and wouldn't recommend.
