One of the downsides to playing so many Fan missions is inevitably becoming jaded to "normal" missions, and naturally biased towards the more unusual FMs in thiefs fandom. (I suspect this is the reason film critics often end up prefering strange indie movies, over blockbusters.) This mission feeds perfectly into that bias.
Embracing the enemy is a mission about chasing an assassin, and trying to stop them before they kill their target. It's a linear mission, but this allows you to see your opponent, and their impact on the world, as you move through the level. Obviously the chase is "fake". There is no time limit, and events will play out the same regardless of how fast you move, but it gives the missions story a unique sense of urgency that is fun to experience.
There is more to the plot, but I can't say more without spoilers. Though I will say that one of the extra objectives added later is an objective I don't necessarily think it's in character for "Garrett" to perform, at least not directly.
As for design the brushwork is actually pretty great, and being linear it's challenges are well designed and in a few places genuinely difficult to ghost, without feeling unfair. All in all, a good, fun mission. It even has at least one unconventional, but still very much discoverable, secret.
This mission is well designed, and unusual. Well worth playing if you are looking through the old archives for some reason.
