The Haunted Cathedral is definitely among the best missions Thief has to offer. Sent to recover a precious artefact from an abandoned Hammerite cathedral, Garrett has to make his way across burned-out and zombie-infested streets to reach his goal. It's eerie, creepy, and intense- you'll never feel quite at ease at any point, in a good way.
The layout of the streets and the tunnels beneath is labyrinthine but, unlike Thieves' Guild, the map isn't *completely* useless. It may feel like you're lost but the mission has a way of funelling you towards the goal nonetheless. And there's enough alternative routes and hidden areas to reward subsequent playthroughs without the loot goal forcing too much running around and backtracking.
Importantly, the mission is fair to all playstyles. If you want to ghost, you can eventually find gaps in the zoms' patrol routes to slip through. Only a few areas does it get a bit tight when avoiding roaming burricks, especially if they've already started attacking the zombies. And if you want to perform a civic service to the City by putting down the undead, mines and fire arrows are plentiful- and the handy inclusion of the flame demon that spawns them will make sure you don't run out.
It's just a top-notch level. 10/10
