I had incredibly low expectations going into Events in Highrock, even with people telling me it's actually good. I'm happy to say that they're mostly right.
The level design itself is leagues beyond The Mage's Area, with a lot of interconnected areas in the City that all (mostly) make sense, and its generally fun to explore. Its definitely a lot more ambitious than Mad God's previous mission.
However, it still has its fair share of quirks. The objective to steal from the merchant while he's distracted is scripted in such a way that you can potentially softlock yourself if you don't grab all the loot in a specific window of time. There is no recourse with this; you either load a save or just pretend you didn't fuck up and hit CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+END when you're done with everything else. There are also a number of hidden objectives, which by themselves aren't bad, but they do lead to very strange tangents where you kind of forget what you were even doing in the first place, which isn't helped by Mad God's tenuous grasp on English either.
All in all though, not only is the mission a vast improvement, but honestly kind of surprised me multiple times over the course of playing. It's pretty good.
(Note: Speaking of surprises, if you just so happen to be streaming FMs and you play this one, you might wanna double check "garm2304.wav" in the missions SND folder. It's a voice line that I'm just gonna generously call "Not Epic" so do with that information what you will.)
