I really dig Bryan's style, his missions are often completely linear, but have the vibe of epic journeys - regardless of how and where they lead the player. That's not different here, and I was consistently curious to see what else the mission had for me. I especially loved the twist that I did not see coming at all (perhaps I missed a readable). But...
While the mission is from 2007, and is one of Bryan's relatively earlier works - still, I think there are quite a few parts here and there that are definitely on the bad spectrum of what a Thief fan mission can offer. Especially considering the nicely built opening section with all of its fun alleys, rooftops and secrets. I agree with the other review written by Goblin_Grease, the mission has a strong Thief 1 vibe - but it's not necessarily the best of Thief 1. Empty rooms with dull texture work, pointless loops, geometry in which you'll keep getting stuck on, one terrible maze, sections straight out from a bad video game, etc. - I hate to say, but a good chunk of Three Crowns can be described with these.
Luckily, the mission is still worth to play, the good sense of adventure is undeniably there - and while I'm slightly disappointed, still eager to check out Bryan's other missions. I think he has a pretty distinct and intriguing style in structuring a Thief mission into an epic journey leading through various moods and themes.
