Or, in layman's terms, WTF did I just play.
I don't know whether I'm frustrated or relieved that I couldn't finish the mission due to either NewDark or original design (I'm left with two non-working doors, both of which seem to be needed to progress, and no key or lockpick can open them)... On the other hand I don't know whether I'm amazed or floored that I could play the mission due to either NewDark or original design.
There isn't a SINGLE thing right with this mission. Mission design has gone out the window - probably to run naked in the woods or something, inverted and/or floating torches, flying paintings, misshapen banners and door handles (who also happen to be far removed from their doors), uneven doors with only one of them working, banner textures for carpets, walls that seem to be at an angle, every room having nothing to do with the previous or next one (and none of them make sense), dead ends that seem to appear out of nowhere, a random picklock found in front of a door when you start the mission with both of them, everything - EVERYTHING that could have gone wrong has, and it's both amazing and appalling.
It's not even a criticism. I thoroughly enjoyed Wanted: Dead or Alive for what it gave me. It's like the author threw everything at the wall and everything stuck. It's delirium tremens made FM. It's like playing Ne Zhdali in chunks of 30 seconds, randomly, while watching a clown set themselves on fire.
I'd say it's not good - or bad - by any means. But it's utterly dumbfounding, fascinating and batshit insane. It's perfect.
Also that guard who was suddenly borked after a reload, found waist-deep in floor dancing some pagan rite of fertility or something. Chef's kiss.
