Perhaps the McGuffin of Bloodstone Prison is not the best: after all, it's hard to imagine Garrett venturing to undead populated ruins of prison to return to his acquaintance his wife's brooch that this acquaintance lost while being held there as prisoner. Still, the level holds up well, even after 25 years after it's release date.
I think that one of the reasons of that is that Bloodstone Prison is not confined to the same theme unlike some similar Return to the Cathedral-like missions: after church section there is prison section that reminds of Cragscleft prison but much darker and evil. Another reason is that level is short and focused on our task while providing an original backstory of prison's warden gradually becoming corrupted and posessed by evil. There are different challenges here - not only slow-walking zombies but also haunts and even exploding frogs. So level always feels fresh.
My main gripe with Bloodstone Prison is that it's a bit linear and after some point you can't return to previous sections. On the other hand it's quite enjoyable and not very long (perhaps 1 hour) undead-themed romp and one of the best (along with Autumn in Lampfire Hills, Circle of Strain missions and Death of Garrett) earlier Thief FMs.
