In Escape, Garrett has reached his lowest point. Betrayed, maimed, and imprisoned he has to suffer the indignity of being rescued by the Keepers before trying to make his way back to safety, wounded and disoriented. In some ways this mission feels the most personal of the first game; for once Garrett doesn't know more about his surroundings than the player does. He's just as lost and confused as you.
A labyrinthine network of overgrown, physics-defying tunnels feeds into the feeling of disorientation. I just wish the execution had been better. At times it's like a never-ending parade of ratmen marching past your hiding spot, making the mission feel tedious rather than unnerving.
You'll be facing a couple of new and dangerous types of enemies while searching the area and trying to escape, which will definitely keep you on your toes. Unfortunately, the objectives involving finding out what Constantine is up to provide no hints as to where to find these clues. You've got to search randomly everywhere. While this adds to the feeling of being lost and disoriented, it also takes away some of the mission's urgency: are we getting the hell out of this crazy place, or are we going to search around for Constantine's diary?
It's not a horrible mission, but it could have been so much better.
