When not long ago I travelled on the road to ... via the Rogokir Pass, I discovered a chasm in the ground which had opened behind the first embankment. This had to be the result of a little earthquake and the recently heavy rain. The cleft seems to be big enough for a burrik to drop in. Therefore it is sealed off. For further security a sentinel is deployed. The very sentinel had a conversation with one of the monks from the local abbey, who exchanged some stories of old for a noble sip of wine. And this I could not avoid to overhear:
During wartimes the abbey was used as a fortress, in which not only the monks but also the royal family and the main part of the population withdrew from their enemies. Once the abbey and the surrounding facility had been much larger. But since when the armies of the underworld rose to earth's surface much had been destoyed and is sunken forever. Uniting all forces and mobilizing an enormous number of soldiers, the supremes fulfilled to defeat the dark army and forced it back into gorge of netherworld. But a great many of the allies were swept along and died in the fires of the ancient world. Today the facility is used by the Hannibalites and so many monks reside in the old walls and celebrate their masses even nowadays. The verbose monk also mentioned an old library that would still exist and in which racks lost treasures and dangerous books were kept. Among others the 'Canon medicinae' composed by Avicenna is supposed to be there. However the entrances were sealed or got blocked and nobody knows the way anymore. Perhaps I should have a trip into the abbey on my way. There are more easily accessible valuables inside, I suppose. And, who knows, I do appreciate sitting at the fire reading a good book...
Yesterday evening I had an affecting chat with a certain Rupert. He is in the branch of trade as I am and he semms to know the ropes around here. I told him about my plan and he agreed to assist by placing a key granting entrance to the second embankment of the new fortress lying between the city and the abbey. Unfortunately I forgot to ask him where exactly he would place the key...
And he warned me. The abbey is located behind a castle-like Fortress and is well protected. Apart from this the quest for the lost library and its treasures is still in progress after all these years. The heck with it! I am a profi. I will come through anyhow. I am going to enter one of the nearby sewers and reappear beyond the first sentinel. It should be possible to avoid being seen by the others as well...
