Tolham was a work of passion and a wild mission overall. I'm very glad you liked it! In the future, I think I'm gonna make a bit less weird FMs but the mysterious aspect will always be there. In Twilights the idea was to decrease the weirdness but still leave enough of it to spice things up (sewers, upper manor rooms and some secret areas).
Often times I find myself creating new areas even though it would be best to focus on certain areas more and polish those to make the gameplay as good ...
I agree the city is very maze-like. I usually play larger FMs during multiple days and this way I think I can adapt and recall the layout a bit better. But yeah, still I can't say that I really learnt the layout. So, it was maybe just some kind of a intuition that led me there in the streets. I kinda always liked maze-like missions and the challenge that it creates for moving around. In this mission player has been left alone in this madness and I liked this setting because it's so different ...
This was the first time I did a collaboration mission. Even our build styles are somewhat different, we noticed that if one auhor builds first some rough area sketch and then other one continues and this goes on in turns, it had a nice result and the slums is the best example in this mission from that method. Other areas are mostly built by one author and some detailing help from the other author. I also noticed that writing readables can be done as collaboration and it worked quite nicely (A...
It was interesting to read your review Matt and the build process we had was a bit strange as I started building the city and the manor and then shortly after this (maybe a week) it became a collaboration that changed things quite a lot. So the ideas of the slums and sewers came up. The slums are about 50/50 collaboration and then Dale did his magic in the sewers. I really wanted to build beyond the high pressure door in the sewers but it wasn't definitely realistic in this time frame and the...
Probably this FM divides people quite a lot. I think the readables might offend or be too rough to others and I can understand it. For me this all was just absurd/crazy and it humored me on several occasions. People have different kinds of humor tastes and this mission really has dark/twisted humor that might be for you or not. This is just the way I see it.
I have played only one older FM from the author: Broken Hammers, which was quite good horror themed mission. The rest I've played ar...
I think it's best if we see as much variety as possible in FMs. All sizes: small, average, large. There are so many different preferences and players that this way everyone probably gets something they can enjoy. I wouldn't really say that FM size itself would be a problem.
I agree that some of these smaller FMs that you Matt listed are very good, especially Alcazar, Morning Light and Lone Rock Outpost. Others mentioned were also enjoyable!
Matt, I hear you, you have some good criticism in your review. Still, I must admit that I didn't like at all that sentence with AI comparison, felt like a low blow. I know no fan mission should be above the criticism, but to compare it as a work of an AI is rough. And, yes you had positive things to say too and I read the whole review and except that certain part I understand your points here. But exactly like Trefoilknot said, that kind of sarcasm is unpleasant really and tasteless. Thus, th...
