Garretts revenge was bad. Really really bad. When I was reading that this used the same map, I was expecting it to also be awful.
It isn't. It's a huge improvement on the original, almost all my complaints were addressed. There are varied textures throughout the mission, all doors are now openable, and intended to open, and you no longer murder...

Let me start off by saying: I default to expert, and only lower the difficuilty if I need to.
Let me now talk about how to incentivise the correct behaviour from your player.
Basically, you want your mission to encourage the playstyle that the mission was designed for. want the player to fight? Put in some fun tools for killing people. Wan...

I have two points of major contreversy against me in the thief community. The first was building a big black pit and filling it full of spiders. The second is my insistance that T2 is a better game to design missions for, and that those who say otherwise are blinded by nostalgia.
However that second point comes from two assumptions: everythin...

I use OpenAL and had to disable EAX for this one. It likely was never optimized for it, as it didn't exist in TDM yet. Or it may yet be an issue with OpenAL but sound seemed, off. Close feeling in wide places for instance.
I wanted to post to TDM forums about this but can't get into my account any longer.
I will not the second mission be...

My reviews have gotten shorter over time. This isn't because I am getting lazier (despite my worries) It's because the FMs have somewhat fallen into a holding pattern of being obviously terrible, or being competent but mostly dull from a technical standpoint.
Curse of the Ancients however, successfully avoids both of those. It is a good missi...

Some missions, I play once, and never again. Some, I play multiple times but only to confirm specific things.
This is the first mission I played twice, and where both playthroughs felt like completely seperate experiences.
This is a prison break mission. Garrett got caught by hammerites, and is going to be hung. Get out. Also, it's a ghostin...

The Assassination is an FM about assassinating Slabodyr Moloszevic, the hammerite high priest. He is living in his home, gaurded by hammers, and so you need to sneak in stab/shoot him, and then retrieve some stuff from his basement, and then sneak out again. The house that Slabodyr Moloszevic, the hammerite high priest, lives in, is actually pre...

Unforgiven: Mission One, is about stealing from a nobleman. It's about stealing some bones, and a sword.
That isn't what makes this mission... this mission.
Unforgiven, is a mission with fully voice acted conversations, that were voiced for it specially. It has custom music, a cutscene at the start, yet all the streets and rooms are done w...

The ending of T2 was a bit poor. That's not a contreversial statement. Casing, and masks, are both very low quality, and Kidnap is only slightly better.
It makes sense, therefore, to imagine alternitives, ways to improve this final sequence. This mission is arguably, in concept, a welcome addition to thief Canon.
Unfortunately, it's quality ...

I was 50/50 on even reviewing this one, I enjoyed the original mission (So much, I actually rated it a 7, above the average scores awarded to it!) However, I am glad I did. Let me start off by saying: most changes made are positive. Between versions some sections got expanded, a ladder was added to the crypt in town, and Garrett now prefers the ...

The trial contest was not a good contest. Of it's four entries, one was unfinished, one was awful, and the third one was... subpar.
This mission is the contest winner, and to be blunt, I feel like it blows the other missions out the water. Unfortunately, it achieves this by being average.
This is a daytime mission, you arrive in the day, n...

Sometimes I question my own review scores. Truthly it's the main thing that slows me down writing these reviews.
The Skull of Herzeloyde is a very straight forward mansion robbery, that is unfortunately very generic. Yet I gave final crusade a 7 despite fitting the same description. The truth is, Skull of Herzeloyde is just a bit boring.
F...

Whenever there is no download link on this site, I get a bit excited. It becomes a small challenge to find the mission so I can review it, and honestly, in most cases, it ends in the disappointing realization that there was a reason it was forgotten.
This is not one of those times.
The Final Crusade (Which at the time of writing, I don't t...

Events in highrock is a good mission. There, I admit it. It's large, detailed, has lots of things to steal, and is generally very well built. It also feels a lot more "real" (and a lot less buggy) than the previous mission in it's series, Mage area.
It also contains quite a few objectives that are easier to solve by accident than with an inte...

This mission is another from the trial contest. It was also almost the last thing I played before going on a six month Hiatus from thief. Not really a fair response to it. Frankly, th mission is not completely horrible to play. The floorplan is decent, and mosof the gameplay feels fine. Unfortunately, in every other respect, this mission is a bi...

Clearly a lot of effort went to create this campaign, but some design decisions inexplicably hampered gameplay where it became a chore in some missions. As everyone is fully aware the mantling in this engine seriously flawed, compared to any other Thief game/s. And this created a lot of frustrating WTF moments throughout the campaign.
By the...

This FM is in many ways, encourages some of the purest gameplay out there. No Looting, no blackjack, nothing but stealth, and exploration. For the majority of the mission, you can't be seen, can't harm anyone, and can't take any shiny loot. That in itself is enough to make the mission stand out.
You are tasked with killing someone, and hiding t...

Someone clearly had a vision, decided to show us it, and then leave without further elaboration. Brainchild is part maze, part keyhunt, both of which are elevated by the level design. The brush and texture work is fairly basic, but there's a lot of attention to detail paid here in other aspects that I feel even the misaligned textures might be i...
